Euro 2012

Porkies - BBQ Pork Ribs

Porkies - BBQ Pork Ribs

Ladies, for the next month your husbands are going to be feeling lethargic, unattentive, with eye bags that would make a panda jealous. Why? Because the European Championships is on! From the 8th of June to the 1st of July, 16 teams will play 19 games in Poland and Ukraine to find the Champions of Europe.

The favourites this year would be Spain of course. Even though they drew their first game, they are still the team to beat. Germany would be another favourite to win this year. I definitely prefer Germany to win this as I dislike Spain. Spain has gotten too many fan boys for my liking.

Another interesting team to watch out for is Italy. Why do you ask? Well in 2006, at the World Cup in Germany, Italy was hit with a match fixing scandal. They also had terrible form coming into the World Cup. And yet, they won the World Cup then. This year, Italy is once again the subject of a match fixing scandal. They lost 3 games in a row before the Euro. But they drew against the World Champions Spain in their first game. So will history repeat itself? Who knows? We would have to watch to find out.

So where is a good place to catch a football game? At your own home is as good a place as any of course. But unless you a bunch of your mates over, the atmosphere is not going to be the same. To get the atmosphere, sports bars are a great place to watch games and nowadays in Kuching we have a few of those.

One of those places, and my favourite, is Porkies. Located next to One Jaya in Jalan Song, Porkies is a Restaurant and Bar. From the name, it is quite obvious that Porkies is a non halal restaurant. Which is good because it means that while watching the game on the telly, you can enjoy the manliest of manly food, BBQ Pork Ribs.

The ribs here are succulent, tender and off the bone. All of which is what you want from a good bbq ribs. The glaze on the ribs here is also good, a balanced amount of sweetness and tanginess. With a few serving sizes, starting with a decent serving size of 3 ribs up to a platter that can feed 3-4 people, the ribs here can cater to everyone appetite. As an added bonus, the prices are also truly economical. RM15.90 will land you 3 ribs. Doesn’t get better than this.

The only sad thing is that the Euros matches are all 12am and 2.45am starting times, that means you can only come here for the midnight matches if at all possible. And you would have to come even earlier if you want to order the ribs. I guess I’ll be watching the games at home after a good dinner at Porkies!

PS. Order the Garlic Bread as well. You won’t regret it.
